Avanti House Secondary School
Existing Gate Upgrade
Avanti House Secondary School had an existing gate system which consisted of an originally Manual set of main entrance gates which had been automated by a National company.
The gates were being maintained but due to not being purpose built for automation they had quickly deteriorated and had damaged the support posts and was constantly breaking down.
We designed and Installed a new set of purpose built gates for automation using our Bearing hinge design and matching finish to our other Avanti Schools projects. Using the same automation and safety devices which we are standardising across the schools group to aid in maintenance and deliver a consistency in maintenance costs over time.
Re-using the existing posts which we repaired on site to reduce the ground works required as the school had to remain in constant use. This involved weekend and night works.
Enhanced Safety
With automated gates the industry standard is installing rubber safety edges to meeting impact force testing requirements.
These leave many unprotected areas on a moving set of gates and schools often get sold a false sense of security by installation companies who specify safety edges only.
These are also the usual point of unreliability and failure with automated gates which require high cost service call out visits and parts replacement.
In schools especially we see climbing damage where children see opening gates as the potential for a fun ride and the additional fitted safety edges give a lip to stand on and do not stop the gate from moving until the edge has impacted sufficently on an obstacle, allowing children to hold onto a moving gate for fun.
Our Non-Contact approach to school gate safety ensures out gates do not move when a child is in the laser detection field of each leaf of the gates. There is no lip to stand on and the gate will only ever move when the detection field is clear.
This ensures the safest operational standards for our schools.
School gate Automation
We integrated the existing school Paxton Net2 Plus system into the vehicle gates and new pedestrian gates.
Previously the school had 3 seperate intercom systems all only answerable from the reception desk.
Now all gates can be opened by any intercom screen across the school as required as well as remote unlocked/opened on central controlled timer.
Our School systems include battery back that will keep the gates operational during a power outage to maintain security, while being linked to the fire alarm so in the event of an evacuation the gates are opened for emergency services.
